Thromboxane A2 (TXA2) is generated from Prostaglandin H2 by enzyme thromboxane-A synthase.
However it is very unstable in aqueous solution, hence having an extremely short half life. Therefore U46619 is utilised as it is a stable analog of TXA2, exhibiting similar properties to the receptor agonist, inducing platelet aggregation and vascular smooth muscle contraction.
U46619 reagent can be utilized to test for thromboxane and cyclooxygenase receptor abnormalities.
